In terms of power and clean headroom it is the smallest of all the Fender piggy back amps. The blackface Tremolux and Bandmaster AB are almost identical amps, just that the Tremolux is sized for smaller events and gigs. The Tremolux had tube rectifier, while the blackface Bandmaster had diode. Both amps had tremolo but no reverb. The sound is nice and clean and the tone remains relatively clean when one turns the volume knob. The video clip demonstrates a blonde Tremolux, which is quite similar to the blackface. The Tremolux is rarer than the other blackface piggy back amps since it was produced over a shorter period of time. It was discontinued in and had no silverface models to follow.
Go to menu top I never heard anything better than a Fender if we’re talking about the big manufacturers. Later on, in the Guitar section, I’ll also talk about Standel and EchoSonic , but they’re produced in such small numbers that it’s fair to say they’ll only have historic interest to the most of us So As long as you get a tube Fender you’ll probably be on the right track, because they all sound pretty good. It doesn’t have to be vintage at all, but they do look pretty cool.
Actually I started out playing a vintage Vox AC 30 and it wasn’t bad at all.

I promise the tables will still be there after you finish reading. We also received a report of a tweed 5G12 Concert. The 5G12 Concert is the earliest version from very late and early so the existence of a tweed example, while extremely rare, is certainly plausible since Fender was making lots of tweed amps during the same time period. Working at FMI — I was able to interview a fellow who wishes to remain anonymous who worked at Fender in in the amp department. Although his job was somewhat limited, his recollections provided some really fascinating insights to how the amps were built.
For instance, he confirmed our assumption that the amp chassis were put into stock after being stamped with serial numbers and that the chassis were pulled from the stock bins randomly just as with Fender guitar neck plates. The boss came around and said what we’d be building. The chassis weren’t used chronologically. Probably the same as the pots and transformers that we just dug out of the boxes. I think in the corners of the boxes were older pots remaining from earlier dates I think the better, older hands did 35 a day.
Like I said, there were 5 or 6 of us at the benches every day. But it wasn’t always ‘cool guitar’ amps, sometimes I was making Fender Rhodes Satellite amps on bent aluminum, sometimes only Champs. I remember two ‘suits’ from upstairs standing behind me occasionally doing time studies.

Still, the song that brings out the enthusiastic grin on most of us is of course Dogs. For me it was what got me into this crazy hobby — trying to figure out how the hell David got his magical tone. Dogs dates back to the middle of the Dark Side of the Moon tour. Pink Floyd had been performing Dark Side in its entirety since early — a whole year before the album was released and as they kept on adding new dates to the tour they badly needed new material.
David wrote most of the music later stated that he was particularly proud of the chord progression. The earliest version even had a long choir part in the middle section, similar to what David and Richard used to do on the 4-piece live version of Atom. Throughout the tour Roger would rewrite the lyrics several times as David found it too hard to sing — there were just too many words Musician, August Sheep and Dogs revealed a heavier side of Pink Floyd.
Although the band never fully entered the prog rock scene they used elements in their compositions blending it with their deep roots in blues and jazz. There are two tracks paned to each side. A Telecaster was used for all electrics — both rhythms and leads — fed into a split between a Hiwatt w head with a WEM speaker cab and a Yamaha rotating speaker cab. On live performances the Telecaster had a Gibson PAF pickup in neck position that was later replaced with a Seymour Duncan custom Telecaster pickup for the Animals tour.
This was also done on the live performances.
And there’s so many variations from year to year that I could probably make this post long enough to be very boring. Here’s my basic rundown based on my experience with like 50 different Bassman amps. The early-mid 60’s blonde piggybacks saturate really well, do the “distorted guitar sponge” thing, and can be cleaned up nicely with the guitar’s volume knob.

This mod changes out many of the cheap components and replaces them with better sounding components too, like our SILVER mod. We set it and mark it to the same volume ON and OFF, you can bump it up even more if you want the tremolo to stand out.

Initially intended to amplify bass guitars, the 5B6 Bassmanwas used by musicians for other instrument amplification, including the electric guitar, harmonica, and pedal steel guitars. The guitar is very well made in Japan and has a vintage Gretsch feel with modern playability. The finish is flawless as well as the fret work. It seems to be much better made than a vintage Gretsch. The nut is made of Delrin to help with the guitar staying in tune. The Hot Rod is a very simple design with one pickup selector switch and one volume knob. The amp was hand built by me here at Guitars. With the Hot Rod plugged into the Bright channel of the 5F6-A amp and bridge pickup selected an open E chord sounded nice and twangy with hints of wood and plenty of chime.
Chording and Chuck Berry rhythms sounded articulate and full with nice definition. Single notes cut nicely and never sounded too thin. Double stops and double note bends have a great texture and edge. If you turn down the guitars volume control the sound cleans up for clean rhythm work. You could play some really nice jazz chords or single note lines.

Where can I get parts for my Fender Amp? Why isn’t my Fender amp listed in the Field Guide If you’re Fender amp isn’t listed in the guide it is most likely because it is a solid state amp. E actually found this for me, deadstock, on eBay about 10 years ago. Since then I have re-tubed and recapped it entirely, and it is really a fantastic amplifier. Very simple, but always sounds great. The cabinet is not so great. We used it briefly in our teen-age garage band. For some reason, it regularly shocked the lead singer. Even if he was not touching anything else. It basically kept him in a constant state of terror.

Hi, Fender Bassman Fans. It has been quoted within several sources that the Fender 5D6 4×10 Bassman amplifiers the World’s very first 4×10 combo amplifiers ever made have an incredible unique, and highly desired bluezy Fender tone. It has been quoted that the Fender 5D6 Bassmans sound much better than their more numerous cousins: I can surely claim to share that my 5D6 Bassman does sound excitingly great, but I have never heard a 5F6A Bassman to compare.
So, my information regarding sound comparisons comes from those who have heard both amps and written information on the Internet Wikipedia states: Watch out for claims stating their 5D6 Bassmans are the first, oldest, most rare, best sounding or most valuable. Remember, the 5D6 Bassmans are absolutely the most rare, most highly collectible, most highly sought after and quite possibly the best sounding Fender Bassman amp ever produced. Definitely, the Fender 5D6 Bassmans are world changers influencing all amplifiers made after I do know the person who claims there are eleven and I personally know of nine existing 5D6 Bassmans.
They are in order of first made: When I find out, I will post. Please do try to understand the following known facts:
